Sabratek Infusion Devices

Sabratek infusion pumps include the pole-mounted Sabratek 3030 and the ambulatory, multi-therapy Sabratek 6060 Homerun. Both devices are capable of performing continuous, auto-ramp (automatic, linear tapering), delayed start, intermittent, and sequential delivery of varying rates and volumes. In addition, the 6060 Homerun is capable of PCA infusion, either continuous, continuous with bolus, or demand bolus only. Both can be made tamper-resistant by requiring the use of a password to enter the programming mode.

Sabratek 3030 and the Sabratek 6060 Homerun

Sabratek 3030

The Sabratek 3030 is a pole-mounted linear peristaltic device that can be used for either venous or arterial infusions. Unlike the Sigma 6000+P, which is factory-calibrated to use standard straight-line tubing from either McGaw, Abbott, or Baxter, the 3030 can be calibrated by the user for any of the three manufacturer’s compatible sets, along with sets manufactured by Sabratek (see the attached list of compatible sets). The pump can deliver medication in four different ways:

1) Continuous - a continuous delivery at a single programmed flow rate;

2) Auto-ramp - automatic, linear ramping (tapering);

3) Intermittent - delivery of a preset number of doses at regular intervals; and

4) Sequential - sequential delivery of up to 15 different rates and volumes.

The pump can be programmed using either rate information (milliliters/hour) or using delivery time (volume to be infused over a programmed delivery time). The pump can also delivery Secondary (Piggyback) infusions before or during the primary infusion, and has the ability to titrate (infusion rate can be changed without halting the infusion). The infusion can be delayed to start at a later time if required. The 3030 has an 2-position adjustable pressure setting using either a low or high pressure threshold.

If the pump is turned off before the infusion is complete, the memory will retain rate, VTBI, and volume infused information; when the pump is restarted, it will continue from the point at which it was interrupted. Programmed infusion settings are maintained in the memory indefinitely, until they are changed by the operator. The pump requires a Sabratek 3030 flow sensor to operate with non-Sabratek sets.

Sabratek 6060 Homerun

The Sabratek 6060 Homerun is an ambulatory multi-therapy device that can be used for enteral, epidural, subcutaneous, arterial and intravenous applications, using rotary peristaltic operation. It has five different methods of delivery:

1) Continuous - continuous delivery of a single rate and volume;

2) Auto-ramp - automatic, linear ramping (tapering);

3) Intermittent - delivery of a preset number of doses at regular programmed intervals;

4) Sequential - sequential delivery of up to 25 different rates and volumes; and

5) PCA - continuous only, continuous with demand bolus dose, or bolus dose only.

The 6060 Homerun can be programmed using either milligrams or milliliters, and provides the option of programming using rate (ml/hr.) or time (volume delivered over a specific time period). Memory is indefinite until parameters are changed by the user, and if the pump is stopped during delivery, it will begin at the same point in the infusion when restarted. The pump uses YES/NO response to on-screen questions to facilitate easy programming.

The pump displays a flashing arrow on screen to indicate when it is infusing; in low ambient light situations, pressing a key during operation will activate a screen back-light for ten seconds to view the display.

The Homerun also has six standard data settings that are user-adjustable: audio volume, KVO rate, occlusion pressure (low or high), display language (English or Spanish), air detection (size of air bubble), and upstream occlusion (enabled or disabled).

The outer care is impact-resistant and has water-resistant enclosure seals to reduce fluid penetration. The pump also uses a remote bolus cord which can be used instead of the keypad bolus button. The pump uses only Sabratek 6060 administration sets (see accompanying list). The pump includes a clear hard plastic "SabraSafe" fluid bag holder which attaches to the head of the pump; it holds the fluid bag inside, while the fluid can be inspected through the clear case for particles.
