Sims Deltec CADD Prizm VIP (6100)
| The CADD Prizm VIP pump is
the first Sims Deltec pump with a capacity for multiple
therapies. It should not be confused with the CADD Prizm
PCS, another version of the same pump having different
capabilities (see below). The Prizm VIP provides PCA
(pain management) therapy, Continuous delivery, TPN
infusion with tapered delivery at the beginning and end
of infusion, and Intermittent delivery. It is indicated for intravenous, intra-arterial, intraperitoneal (abdominal), epidural space (spinal), or subarachnoid space (membrane enclosing the brain and spinal column) infusion. The Prizm VIP runs on 9-volt alkaline batteries, on direct AC power, or using an External Power Source (EPS) battery pack . It can be programmed in milliliters (ml), milligrams (mg), or micrograms (m g). |

The pump has an integral data port which can be used as an interface cable for a printer, as a remote dose cord input, or as a modem cable for communications. An optional air detector assembly can be attached to the exterior of the Prizm. An extended history feature allows review of dose information for each 1-hour period in the previous 48 hours. 3 Lock Levels are available, with an AutoLock feature which which can automatically change the Lock Level when the pump is started. A Biomed Toolbox allows the clinician to customize programming features, including a message which reminds the user that preventive maintenance is due on the pump. The Prizm VIP uses the same 50 and 100 ml. cassettes as earlier CADD pumps, but for TPN and high volume infusion (above 350 ml./hr.), the pump requires dedicated Prizm sets (see accompanying set list.) Using the optional Diplomat communications system (software, interface cables, modems and connections), the Prizm can download data into a PC. Using the optional Ambassador communications system, this download can be done from a remote location via a phone modem line. Data can also be printed directly to a Seiko Instruments Thermal Printer, using the 21-6144 Interface cable. This printer is not available from Sims Deltec and can only be obtained through Seiko distributors.
A newer version of the Prizm, Model 6101, includes an upstream occlusion detector (detects occlusions between the medication bag and the pump, instead of only the distal occlusion detection in version 6100) and allows the programming of the pump over phone lines using an SVD modem. The 6100 can be upgraded to version 6101 for about $550.

Sims Deltec CADD Prizm PCS (6100)
The CADD Prizm PCS (Pain Control System) is similar in appearance to the CADD Prizm VIP, but its function is limited to continuous infusion, continuous with bolus, or bolus only. It has no TPN or intermittent infusion programming options.
