MiniMed Infusion Pumps
Minimed 404SP Microinfusion Pump
MiniMed 404 SP |
The Minimed 404SP is a palm-size infusion pump capable of continuous or intermittent delivery of intravenous or subcutaneous infusions of very minute amounts, with automatic changes in delivery rate or dose size and interval up to six times per day. It offers patient-controlled demand bolus dosing, and requires 3-ml Minimed dedicated syringe reservoirs and Male/Female luer extension tubing or needle set. |

Minimed Insulin Pumps
MiniMed 506, MiniMed 504S |
MiniMed 507 |
The Minimed 504S, Minimed 506, and the newer Minimed 507 and 507C which replace both earlier models are utilized specifically for the infusion of Insulin in the treatment of insulin-dependent Diabetes, and deliver in units of Insulin (instead of ml or m l like most infusion devices). All the models are palm-size and nearly undetectable when worn. The 504S can deliver up to four different basal rates in a 24-hour period, the 506 up to six, and the 507 up to twelve basal rates. The 507C can deliver up to 48 basal rates. All models can deliver programmed patient-controlled meal boluses, and a temporary basal rate can be delivered without affect the pre-set profile program (up to 18 hours).
All the pumps can record infusion data history: the 504S recalls the time and amount of the patients last meal bolus and the daily medication total; this has been augmented in the 506 to include recall of the last seven boluses and daily totals, and in the 507 to recall the last twelve boluses. The 507C recalls the last twenty-four boluses.
The 506 and 507 have also increased the LCD screen size and simplified the pushbutton controls for easier programming, and now offer an optional Short-syringe method which recesses the syringe connector inside the pump for greater patient comfort. The 507C also includes a PRIME function not available in earlier models, and has a 4-digit year in the memory instead of the 2 digits in earlier model, so that it can handle the upcoming year 2000 problems.
The 504S can be programmed for Insulin concentrations of either U-40 or U-100; the 506, 507, and 507C also offer U-50 concentration programming. Both are "splash-proof" and can be worn in the shower using the optional Shower Pak.
Minimed pumps require the use of the dedicated 3-ml. Minimed syringe (reorder # MN103); and a Male/Female luer extension or needle set, available in either Polyfin or PVC. Polyfin tubing sets are suggested for use with insulin pumps because of the tendency of PVC tubing to degrade when in contact with insulin products.

Introduced in October of 1999, the Minimed 508 Insulin Pump comes with a standard remote programmer that is the size and shape of a car alarm that allows the patient to bolus or suspend the pump without removing it from their clothing or from the pumps case. There is also an optional vibrate mode, which allows the pump to operate silently instead of beeping if the patient desires. A new child block feature restricts most programming features of the pump.
Another new feature is the 3 different bolus deliveries which can be programmed: the normal, immediate bolus; a Square Wave bolus, which allows the bolus to deliver over an extended period of time (up to 8 hours); and the Dual Wave bolus, which allows the patient to combine both a normal bolus and a Square Wave bolus. An increased memory capability also allows for more on-screen and downloadable history to be recorded by the pump. The pump comes in 4 colors: Blue, Charcoal, Teal, and White.
