IVAC Infusion Devices
The IVAC family of infusion pumps, controllers, and syringe devices includes many units which are not generally available from Medical Specialties. These devices are not covered by this inservice guide and include the following models: 230, 260, 281, 530, 561, 581, 591, 630, 310 (PCA Syringe Infusor) and models 700 and 710 (Syringe Infusors). Many of these models are obsolete and have been replaced by later models; all model numbers that end in "1" are the European equivalent of the similar model number, and use a different electrical system than is utilized in the United States. Imed and IVAC recently merged into Alaris Medical, which has discontinued the manufacture of most of the earlier IVAC models, including the 3080, 280, 560, 570, and 580.

IVAC 560, 560+, 565
IVAC 560 |
This volumetric infusion
pump, with its durable metal housing, is one of the few
devices on the market which can monitor the
patients arterial blood pressure while infusing.
Extremely accurate at ± 2 %, it utilizes linear peristaltic operation,
features variable pressure settings, dose limit, and can
be interfaced with computer monitoring systems. The 560+ is identical to the 560, but has the added feature of a secondary mode for piggyback infusion. The 565 is the micro version of the 560. Detachable pole clamp, requires drop sensor for operation. |

IVAC Sitesaver 280
IVAC Sitesaver 280 Controller Controller with impact-resistant plastic case, dose limit, 5 ml/hr KVO; has green/yellow/ red flow status LED indicator which notes resistance to flow. Not for use in arterial infusions (gravity pressure may be insufficient to overcome arterial pressure). Titration possible. Flow sensor required for operation. |
Rate parameters:
5-300 ml/hr in 1 ml increments Volume limits: 1-9999 ml in 1 ml increments Battery capacity: New, fully-charged lasts 12 hours at 125 ml/hr. Battery recharge: Recharges to 70% capacity in 6 hrs Alarms: Flo, Door, Hold, Bat. and Batt, Err. Administration Sets: IVAC "S" series only, same as IC580 (see attached list) Flow sensor: Model 182 Accuracy: ± 10 % |
IVAC 570
IVAC 570 |
Replacing the earlier 560 series, the 570 maintains many of the features of the 560, including variable pressure and occlusion settings and displays and the ± 2 % accuracy. However, the newer 570 has combined all the best features of the 560, 560+, 565, and 565+ devices by expanding the rate range from 0.1-999.9 ml/hr. and adding a secondary (piggyback) mode. The pump can be run using the model 180 drop sensor, or can run without a drop sensor using the internal air/occlusion sensor. The 570 also has a CRIS mode for use with the CRIS infusion system. The pumps uses the same sets as the 560-series pumps. |
| Rate parameters: | 1-999 ml in 1 ml increments or 0.1-999.9 ml in 0.1 ml increments |
| Vol. & Dose Limit: | 1-9999 ml in 1 ml increments |
| Occlusion Pressure: | Variable settings from 0-500 mmHg or
0-680 cmH2O Auto default is 500 mmHg (approx 10 PSI). |
| Battery capacity: | Fully-charged, approx. 5 hours at 125 ml/hr. |
| Battery recharge: | Recharges to full capacity in approx. 24 hours. |
| KVO rate: | 5 ml/hr. or selected rate, whichever is less. |
| Alarms: | Empty Fluid Container (with flow sensor), Closed clamp, Occlusion, Open Door, Low Batt, Flow Sensor, Set Out, Time Out, Calibration Required, Air, Fix Me X (X=malfunction code) |
| Accuracy: | ± 2 % |
| Flow Sensor: | Model 170 or 180 |
Note: Manufacture of IVAC 570 infusion devices was discontinued in October of 1999. Disposable tubing and service repair parts will continue to be available for seven years from that date.
IVAC Star-Flow 580, 580+
IVAC 580+ |
This volumetric infusion
pump is a lightweight device with impact-resistant
plastic insulated housing (reduces chances of electrical
shock), but is not considered overly accurate for an
infusion pump, being only accurate to ± 10%. Although still a popular device, it has been replaced by the more accurate 590 series pumps and is no longer manufactured. It has linear peristaltic operation, a computer interface, dose limit, and integral pole clamp. The 580+ has the capability for programming an independent secondary program. Requires a 182 drop sensor. |
| Rate parameters: | 1-500 ml/hr. in 1 ml increments |
| Volume & Dose Limits: | Off-9999 ml in 1 ml increments |
| Occlusion Pressure: | Occludes at < 25 PSI |
| Battery capacity: | Full charge last approx. 10 hours at 125 ml/hr. |
| Battery recharge: | Recharges to 70% in approx. 6 hours |
| KVO rate: | 5 ml/hr or selected rate if lower. |
| Alarms: | Flo, Door, Hold, Bat., Batt., Err X. |
| Accuracy: | ± 10 % |
| Flow Sensor: | Model 182 |
IVAC Star-Flow 590, IVAC Space-saver 599
IVAC 590 |
Similar in appearance and operation to the IVAC 580 series, these devices have increased accuracy to ± 5 %. Both have linear peristaltic operation, integral pole clamp, secondary infusion capability, computer interface, dose limit, and are housed in a lightweight impact resistant plastic insulated housing. The 590 requires a drop sensor, while the 599 runs without. |
| Rate parameters: | 1-999 ml/hr in 1 ml increments |
| Volume, Dose Limits: | Off-9999 ml for primary, Off-999 for secondary |
| Pressure Limits: | Occludes at < 25 PSI. |
| Battery capacity: | Fully-charged lasts approx 6 hours at 125 ml/hr |
| Battery recharge: | Discharged to full charge in approx. 24 hours. |
| KVO Rate: | 5 ml/hr or selected rate if lower. |
| Alarms: | Flo, Door, Hold, Bat., Batt., Set Out, Err X, Occl., Air |
| Accuracy: | ± 5 % |
