Baxter/Travenol
Infusion Devices
Baxter/Travenol infusion pumps are pole-mounted general-purpose home and hospital devices. Most use standard Baxter tubing sets (see set list) except for the 8000 series pumps, which require a dedicated set. Some of the newer models, such as the Baxter 6201, are capable of delivering ramped or calculated-bellcurve (profile) programs. 8000 series pumps work on a piston-displacement scheme; the other Baxter/Travenol pumps pictured here are linear or rotary peristaltic.

Travenol Flo-Gard 6000 , 6100
Simple to operate, inexpensive, with limited features, these heavy, unwieldy pumps (known as "boat anchors" by technicians) are popular with veterinary clinics because they are difficult for animals to overturn. They can also be used for human infusion; use standard Baxter tubing. Heavy internal transformer sometimes bends out of line, causing "Motor Defect" alarms. The Travenol 6000 only recharges the battery while pump is turned on. Rotary peristaltic operation. Air-in-line, distal occlusion, motor defect alarms.
Manufacture of both these pumps was discontinued years ago; service is no longer supported, and parts are no longer made for either model.

Baxter 6200, 6300
Baxter Flo-Gard 6200, 6300 General purpose pumps for home and hospital use, the 6200 series is considered one of the most reliable industry infusion standards, with high demand and utilization. Uses standard Baxter tubing sets, separate piggyback rate and volume controls and display for secondary infusion. Linear peristaltic pumping mechanism enclosed, making the device more spill-resistant. Manufacture discontinued in 1999, but parts and service support are still available. The Baxter 6300 (see picture below) is a dual channel pump, essentially functioning as two Baxter 6200s in a single housing, with independent primary and secondary rate and volume programming on each side. Both include air and occlusion alarms, safety clamp to prevent free-flow, panel lock-out, titration capability. |

| Travenol Flo-Gard 8000, 8100, 8200,8500 General purpose home and hospital pump, these models uses piston displacement action and require a dedicated cassette tubing set, unlike the other Baxter/Travenol pumps, which use standard tubing. The cassette is similar to Abbott Lifecare sets, trapping air in the cassette. Thumbwheel rate control, LED display for dose limit and messages. 8000 also has separate display for volume delivered. Uses optional flow sensor. Note: Baxter has discontinued manufacture of the 8000 series, effective November 1999, and will gradually phase out manufacture of the dedicated sets below during the year 2000. Baxter will continue service support for these products until December 31, 2000. Rate Parameters: 1 - 999 ml/hr in 1 ml increments Occlusion pressure: £ 12.6 PSI Accuracy: ± 3% |

| Baxter Flo-Gard 6201, 6301 General-purpose home and hospital pump, the 6201 and 6301 are similar in appearance and operation to the earlier 6200 and 6300 models, respectively. They have the expanded capability, however, of delivering not only primary and secondary medications, but also have a capability for the manual or ramped calculations of up to 10 sequential infusion programs. Indicated for epidural (spinal) infusions, along with any standard infusion therapy, including TPN, blood, and fat emulsions (may require specialized tubing). Like the 6200 and 6300, these devices use standard Baxter tubing sets. The Flo-Gard 6301 is a dual-channel device with two independently-programmed pumps in a single housing, each of which has ramped program capability. Volume/time programming, locking control panel. |
