Breast Pumps
Breast pumps are used by women who need some
additional help when breastfeeding infants. Available from
Medical Specialties are 2 models from Medela, including the
Classic Breastpump (shown below) and the Lactina Select
Breastpump. These devices are piston-operated pumps with
one-phase induction motors, inside a single plastic and metal
housing to provide maximum quietness. Pumps have a vacuum
regulator which provides variable degrees of negative pressure.
The Medela Classic Breastpump (MED01501) provides autocycle suction, 48 cycles every minute in a 3-phase rotation: each cycle consists of
1) a vacuum (suction) phase, where the pump reduces the atmospheric pressure from 760 mmHg to 560-510 mmHg; then
2) a release phase where the negative pressure returns to 760 mmHg; and finally,
3) a relaxation phase where there is a small positive pressure of 10 mmHg.
The Medela Lactina Select Breastpump (MED0165001) has adjustable pumping speed and adjustable vaccum with automatic sucking action. It has a simpler operation than the Classic model and new pumps have a 1-year warranty compared to the 5-year warranty on the Classic model.
Both pumps require the disposable Universal Pumping System (MED67093). This product contains: two breastshields and breastshield inserts; two yellow valves; three white membranes; yellow piston; advanced cylinder; vaccum regulator ring; two rubber seals; advanced pumping ring; pump connector; Classic barrier/filter; two tubings with adapters; two collection bottles; two clear lids; one bottle stand; carrying bag; instruction booklet and Breastfeeding Information Guide.
