Bear 33 Portable Ventilator

The Bear 33 Volume Ventilator is a portable device for use with adults and limited pediatric patients, with three modes of operation: control, assist control, and SIMV. Like the vents on the previous page, the Bear 33 can be used in conjunction with a humidifier if necessary and can use the same disposable circuits. When using with a humidifier, the manufacturer recommends using the optional table mount humidifier bracket (#51000-08124) which allows the humidifier to be securely mounted next to the ventilator. Like the Respironics and Aequitron ventilators, the Bear 33 can be operated by AC power, internal battery, or optional external battery.

Control:

ventilator delivers gas at selected tidal volume, peak flow and rate settings. The patient is still able to draw spontaneous breaths through the piston bypass check valve.

Assist Control:

a positive pressure breath is triggered when the patient’s spontaneous inspiratory effort drops below the pre-set assist sensitivity level; if the patient does not trigger the machine within the breath-to-breath time set by the rate control, the vent will automatically deliver a breath.

SIMV:

(Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation) allows the patient to breath spontaneously and to receive a fixed number of positive pressure breaths as set by the rate control. These breaths can be patient-initiated (assisted) or ventilator-initiated (controlled).

Note: All ventilators must be plugged in and on the charge setting to maintain internal batteries.

Suggested Substitutions: Aequitron LP6+, Aequitron LP10, Respironics PLV-100, Respironics PLV-102

Disposable circuits are interchangeable between all devices:

use RP312142, Airway Circuit Kit with tubing & assorted masks, if a customer does not know what they need for circuits and accessories. There is a broad variety of circuits available for ventilators; adult ventilator circuits have a diameter of 22 mm., while pediatric circuits are only 15 mm; neonatal circuits are also available which are as small as 10 mm. However, each has a universal attachment so they can fit any ventilator.

Humidifiers

Humidifers can be added to the circuit lines of all ventilators by inserting a small piece of circuit tubing (usually comes in 18" lengths) between the ventilator and the humidifier chamber, and then attaching the patient circuit to the other outlet of the chamber (see illustration).

Available Fisher & Paykel Humidifiers:

FSHC500:

designed specifically for homecare hookups with ventilators dual mode-both heated and non-heated wire system capability

FSMR730:

neonatal and intensive care applications, special-order only; more sophisticated than HC500, has gas temperature digital display, dual servo control.  Requires an airway temperature probe (i.e. #TR900MR571) to maintain proper air temperature.

FSMR410:

constant flow applications such as oxygen therapy and CPAP, special-order only

All Fisher Paykel humidifiers can use the single-use HC335 Adult Humidification Chamber (FSHC335); there are also reusable humidification chambers available which can be autoclaved and reused.
